The Route

The Great American Rail Trail is a newly minted, 3,700 mile U.S. coast-to-coast trail linking hundreds of historic rail-trails, stretching from La Push, Washington in the west to Washington D.C. in the east. The work of connecting all of those individual trails is still underway, and many paths and trestles are still works in progress.

We will begin in the west, and, to the best of our ability, we will be following the GART, but there are many sections where the proposed route is not yet passable, so we’ll sometimes be forging our own path.
